Social Security Optimization Review

Review filing options using SSA rules, timing considerations, and benefit coordination. We help clients understand key questions to ask before filing and compare scenarios for retirement, spousal, survivor, and Medicare-related decisions.

IRMAA Review Photo

IRMAA Review

SSA says you can ask to lower IRMAA if a life-changing event reduced household income. Events can include marriage, divorce, death of a spouse, loss of income, or an employer settlement payment. We help review whether SSA-44 and supporting documents may be appropriate.

Spousal Benefits Photo

Spousal Benefits

A spouse may qualify for spousal benefits starting at age 62. SSA says spousal benefits can be up to 50% of the worker's full retirement age benefit. Filing before full retirement age can reduce the amount.

Ex-Spousal Benefits Photo

Ex-Spousal Benefits

An ex-spouse may qualify on a former spouse's record if the marriage lasted at least 10 years. In many cases, you must be age 62 or older and not currently married. Benefits paid on an ex-spouse's record do not reduce that ex-spouse's own benefit.

Survivor Benefits Photo

Widower and Survivor Benefits

A surviving spouse or surviving divorced spouse may qualify for survivor benefits. SSA says eligibility can begin at age 60, or age 50 if disabled, and payments can increase the longer you wait. At survivor full retirement age, benefits can be up to 100% of the deceased worker's amount.

Overpayments Photo

Overpayments

An SSA overpayment means you received more than you should have been paid. The notice explains why it happened and the amount due. Depending on the situation, you may be able to request reconsideration, repayment terms, or a waiver.

Family Benefits Photo

Family Maximum Benefits

SSA places a limit on the total monthly amount payable to a family on one worker's record. In many cases, the combined family benefit is about 150% to 180% of the worker's full retirement benefit. Divorced spouse benefits generally do not reduce benefits payable to you or other family members.

Claiming Dates and Strategies

When you file can significantly affect your monthly benefit. We review filing age, spousal coordination, survivor options, and Medicare timing. If you are eligible for both retirement and spousal benefits, SSA generally pays the higher combined amount under its filing rules.
